What Is Sharara Dress 


Typically worn by women living in India and Pakistan, shararas are traditional ethnic wear comprised of pleated loose pants worn with a chunni (similar to a stole) and a kurti (an Indian top).  There are many different variations of the outfit and it can include either pants or a skirt.  While the beautiful suits can be worn to most any occasion, one of the most commonly  recognized types is the elaborate bridal sharara worn in weddings.  In general though, the sharara is a very versatile outfit that can be customized by using different fabrics to achieve a more formal look for special occasions or a more casual style if desired.  Listed here are some of the most important factors to consider when buying sharara items. 

Sharara with a Skirt

While the most popular style of the sharara includes pants, it is not uncommon for it to be worn with a skirt as well.  When this is done, the skirt included is fitted from the waist to the knee, flowing out from there.  The specific fitting of the skirt is what differentiates the sharara from other various ethnic outfits. 

 

Sharara with Crop Top

Some women choose to include a cropped top with the sharara, as well.  This upper garmet is also known as a choli and is a particularly popular choice for those wearing bridal shararas in recent years.  The bare midriff and loose fitting bottoms are a very appealing and elegant combination perfect for an Indian wedding ceremony.  Indian brides are known for their elaborate garmets and heavy jewelry.

Sharara with Kurta

For those who do not wish to expose the midriff area, the kurta is a very common choice.  The kurta is a long, flowing top piece that is traditionally coupled with the sharara pants or skirt.  These tops are very long and end at the knee. 

When to Wear a Sharara

can be worn to basically any occasion, but the most well-known event where the outfit is worn is during a wedding ceremony by the bride herself.  Others may also wear the sharara to a wedding as well, as long as less elaborate jewelry and garments are chosen.  More casual daytime functions are perfect for wearing a sharara lehenga choli and heavier versions of the outfit can be worn to evening cocktail parties.  Sharara dress can also be worn to other informal gatherings as well. 

Shoes to Wear with Sharara Dress

The sharara outfit can be styled in many different ways and one of the easiest ways to customize the look is with the perfect shoes.  If the sharara suit includes pants, flat shoes such as juttis or chappals can be a great choice.  For suits that include skirts instead of pants, high-heeled shoes are a good option because they add to the grace and overall femininity of the skirt.
